About Waldron
Waldron, a turn-of-phrase referring to woody ground (‘walda’) in Saxon times, is a peaceful village in Wealden District, East Sussex. Saxon origins are even found in the local church, which is itself historic and dating back to 1195 but is likely to be sited upon the remainder of a wooden church from the Saxon era. A local aristocratic home, Foxhunt Manor, was built in 1898 and became a school before it was bought by the Order of the Visitation. Waldron was known for hop production in the mid 1880s but the industry weakened after receiving tough competition from producers in Kent.
