About Isfield
Isfield village in Wealden District, East Sussex, contains fascinating history throughout the ages: Roman, Saxon, Norman. King Harold is reputed to have spent the night there, just before the Battle of Hastings, where he died. Isfield Place, a manor house from the 17th century, boasts splendid architecture. Two periods have particularly boosted the local economy – the Wealden iron industry from the 15th century and the 19th century, when the River Ouse was used for commercial transport. Today, villagers enjoy a respectable cricket club, among other leisure pursuits. Railway enthusiasts can enjoy the Lavender Line Steam Railway, which is based at the old Isfield station.
