About Chiddingly
Chiddingly is a respected village in the Low Weald of Wealden District, East Sussex, and includes hamlets such as Muddle’s Green – with the settlement just five miles from the market town of Hailsham. With a distinct rural character, the village area was built on seven hills: Stone Hill; Thunders Hill; Holmes Hill; Burgh Hill; Gun Hill; Scrapers Hill; and Pick Hill. In the Domesday Book, the village is referred to as ‘Cetelingei’, which reveals its Saxon past. Chiddingly and its environs retains a lot of historical and cultural interest – thee is an annual festival and a museum, for example, and the local C of E church hails from the 13th century and there are also four bustling pubs. The Burgh Hill Farm Meadow is a fascinating hedgerow-fronted meadow, which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Farley Farm House is also of interest, featuring works of photographer-and-artist couple, Lee Miller and Roland Penrose.
