About Westham

Westham is a three-strong civil parish of three villages: Westham, Hankham and Stone Cross in Wealden District, East Sussex. Located near Pevensey and Eastbourne, Westham itself is noted in the Domesday Book. The settlement is found to the west of the Pevensey Levels, on a ridge, which was once a sea inlet. The name ‘west’ comes from ‘waest’ meaning west. ‘Ham’ means home. Experts believe the meaning of the settlement is ‘home for the Saxons’.
