About Polegate
Polegate in Wealden District, East Sussex, connected to Willingdon in the south, has a good array of shops and its own railway station with connections to Lewes and Eastbourne. The railway also means the town connects to nearby Hailsham, which does not have a railway station, via a bus route. St John’s Church, founded in 1876, is a hub of community activities, complemented by a number of leisure and sports groups, such as Polegate Town FC, and Polegate and Stone Cross Cricket Club. There are two popular recreation grounds: Polegate War Memorial Recreation Ground and Brightling Road Recreation Ground. Industrial businesses run successfully at Chaucer Industrial Business Park on Dittons Road. Polegate Windmill is manned by hard working and loyal volunteers. A tower windmill built in 1817, it is now a museum where a warm welcome is assured. TV journalist David Dimbleby lives in the area and the late Denis Healey, politician, also resided nearby.
