About Scaynes Hill

Scaynes Hill is a lovely village in Lindfield rural civil parish in Mid Sussex, just two miles east from Haywards Heath. It is known for a disused quarry within the boundaries of the village, which is now a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The site contains sandstone, that is exposed and was derived from the flood plain in Wealden District. Another landmark of interest is the village church, built in 1858, which was Grade II listed in 2006.

Called St Augustine’s, the church used to be a school in Scaynes Hill during the week and then used for worship on Sundays. The school was relocated to Church Road in 1879 and was eventually moved again to Vicarage Lane in time for the Costells Edge development. Scaynes Hill also contains a Strict Baptist Chapel. The village also has a Millennium Hall built in 2000 and a village club near Church Road. These days, Scaynes Hill has a mix of architecture, which includes modern housing. Residents also enjoy a regular bus service to Haywards Heath and Uckfield.
