About Steyning
Steyning, along with nearby villages of Upper Beeding and Bramber, is a delightful rural parish and town in the Horsham District. Knowing for a pleasant array of shops, tea rooms and pubs, the settlement has a long and colourful history; influenced somewhat from the town’s previous status as an important trade port before the River Adur silted up in the 14th century. Nevertheless, the town still thrived and today hosts a leisure centre with an impressive swimming pool, library, museum and it’s ideally placed for outdoor enthusiasts wanting to explore the South Downs.
There are two schools for senior pupils in Steyning: Steyning Grammar School, a comprehensive with some 2,500 students, which hails from the Stuart era. Also, Towers Convent School for girls (boys in the primary age). The town has its own football and cricket clubs. Steyning also hosts its own cultural festival, founded in 2006. It happens every two years, in the summer, with a great variety of events which encompass literature, drama, music, walks and community interaction of various sorts.
