Glynde village in Lewes District has a good number of local businesses and retail outlets. It also hosts tourist attractions including the prestigious Glyndebourne opera house to the north, Glynde Place, an Elizabethan manor and a tea shop. It is also a hotspot for accessing the South Downs. The Glynde estate stretches far back although it's not recorded in the Domesday Book. Historians believe this is because it was the 'peculier' of the Archbishop of Canterbury noted in the book.

Historians believe that the Glynde estate once belonged to four families, all interlinked, known as the Trevors, the Waleys, Brands and Morleys. Both the Waleys and Trevors had originally come from Wales. The Waleys added to their property portfolio by taking on Bainden and Hawkesden near Mayfield - an important spot for the Wealden ironmaking industry. Meanwhile the Morleys, via William Morley who died in 1597, added Preston Beckhelwyn, as well as the manors of Beddingham and Combe. In any case, the area of Glynde today is a highly attractive place to live for residents and for visitors to come and experience.
